The World's Tallest Thrill Attractions in Las Vegas!
We’re back in Fabulous Las Vegas, and today’ s adventure begins with a visit to the STRAT hotel, casino, and tower complex. Located at the tail end of the strip, the STRAT offers several hours of entertainment; even without the casino! First, we went to the Tower Observation deck, which sits 1,149 feet above the Las Vegas Strip. This is the highest free-standing observation tower in the United States and offers spectacular 360-degree views of the Las Vegas Valley and surrounding areas. It is important to note that “professional” filming equipment is not permitted in the Tower, so we had to leave our mini-tripod on the ground level with security. While up in the tower, we enjoyed sandwiches from 108 Eats and shared a cocktail from 108 Drinks. We did have one major goal for our visit which was to brave the world-famous SkyJump - an 855ft vertical zipline that simulates freefall down to the bullseye on the pavement below. This jump has been a big-ticket item on our bucket list for years, and it was an absolute thrill to finally check it off!
After the jump - but before leaving the STRAT - we absolutely had to try one of the terrifying attractions that operates at the top deck of the Tower. And because we had not had enough thrills yet, we decided on Big Shot - an S&S shot tower that brings riders to a staggering 1081ft above the Vegas strip at 45 mph and currently holds the record as the world’s tallest thrill attraction. If the initial ‘shot’ doesn’t take your breath away, the views certainly will. We absolutely loved our many hours spent at the STRAT, and we decided that we would absolutely have to come back someday to see the same views at night.
Our day was not over, however, because our next stop was at Area15 to check out the mysterious Ωmega Mart. If you have never been to a Meow Wolf installation, spoiler alert…they are nearly impossible to describe. To us, it was an immersive and interactive art museum/playground themed to a bizarre grocery store. But don’t get caught up in the store for long, because there is so much more weirdness to explore. For awareness, use of professional-grade cameras and other filming equipment are not permitted in Ωmega Mart, but the use of smartphones is allowed and encouraged. We spent hours getting lost and playing in the many exhibit rooms. There is an optional scavenger hunt that you can purchase but we honestly ran out of time! This is a great indoor activity not far from the strip that offers hours of fun and exploration in the comfort of air conditioning.
