The Luck of the Irish at Field of Screams!
Top of the mornin’ to ya, and welcome back to another St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Field of Screams in Mountville, PA! This is the second off-season event of 2024 and already we are seeing some big changes for our home haunt. Immediately, we noticed that the front entrance was under construction and completely unrecognizable. Later in the day, we were able to take a closer look and hear directly from the owners what was coming for main season. Needless to say, we think its going to be a huge upgrade and cannot wait to see the finished product in the fall!
Before heading to the attractions, we wanted to partake in one of two themed cocktails at the (modified) Chainsaw Bar. Our options for this seasonal event included the “Spectral Shamrock” and the “Leprechaun Libation.” We fully admit that we went all in for the Leprechaun Libation because of the edible glitter, which made for a stunning effect in the afternoon sun. Tim found the cocktail to be a bit sour (not a fan of lime), but I enjoyed the refreshing beverage! Typically, Field’s off-season events feature the two indoor haunted house attractions, “Frightmare Asylum” and “Den of Darkness”, but this year the outdoor trail Nocturnal Wasteland made its off-season debut. And in the spirit of St. Paddy’s Day, this haunted trail was boasting a “hidden bar” experience. Knowing that Nocturnal is best experienced in the dark, we opted to try Frightmare Asylum first. As our Irish luck would have it, we even ran into some friends and fellow haunters from Laurel’s House of Horror!
After passing through the asylum, we knocked out Den of Darkness as well and took a break for some food from the fair truck. By then, it was finally dark enough to check out the Nocturnal Wasteland for the first time since the fall of 2023. The hidden bar was found fairly quickly, probably because of the huge sign that read “Secret Noc Bar.” The drink menu was identical to the Chainsaw Bar, but it was a surreal experience to sip on drink from inside the haunt and watch the fires from the junkyard burn. There are three entrances to the bar from the trail, but after the first pit stop, we opted to continue the linear trail experience without further interruptions. The scare-actors in Noc put on fantastic performance and we really enjoyed having a third attraction for this event. As always, we’d like to thank the owners for allowing us special permissions to film inside the haunted houses during our spring visit. May the road rise up to meet you in our 2024 vlog from the St. Patrick’s Day event at Field of Screams!
