Everything You Need to Know About the Hotel Charles Lindbergh
BRÜHL, GERMANY — Phantasialand has a well-earned reputation for being one of the most captivating, immersive theme parks in the industry - drawing guests and enthusiasts from all over the world. After a full, fun park day, it’s only natural to want a place nearby to rest your head. As it happens, park visitors have three choices as far as onsite hotels. During our summer 2025 visit, we were lucky enough to be able to stay in two of them - and while the Hotel Matamba is a comfortable and beautiful hotel which we thoroughly enjoyed, those seeking the ultimate level of immersion and escapism must indulge a stay at the Hotel Charles Lindbergh.
The Hotel Charles Lindbergh is seated in the Rookburgh area of Phantasialand, which is the newest area of the park and generally considered to be an expansion of the Berlin area. However, there is likely nowhere else in Germany quite like Rookburgh. Inspired by real-life American aviator Charles Lindbergh, Rookburgh and its surrounding hotel transports guests to the steampunk world of tomorrow (or perhaps yesterday) where the primary form of transportation is the mythological ‘air rail’. Phantasialand is nothing if not ambitious, but Rookburgh is the park’s most ambitious area yet. Every detail in this area is intentional, and it all comes to life with sound loops, uplighting, steam pumps, a killer soundtrack, and the main attraction and aptly named flying coaster, F.L.Y.
Above: The Aeronaut Cabins at the Hotel Charles Lindbergh are definitely more compact than most hotel rooms, but the immersive theming, cozy beds and the overall package offerings make it an exciting stay nonetheless!
However exhilarating walking around Rookburgh and seeing the coaster trains zooming overhead might be, a stay at Charles Lindbergh takes immersion to the next level. The Hotel Charles Lindbergh is a unique stay for many reasons, first and foremost among them being that it is - at the moment - the only resort hotel that offers a package deal. Your stay includes (1) dinner and (1) breakfast for each night, (1) park admission per person for each night booked, one quick pass (fast pass) for F.L.Y. for each night booked, and exclusive night-time access to the Rookburgh area between the hours of 8:00pm and 12:00am local time. Plus, it’s inarguable that the best views of F.L.Y. are from the balconies of the hotel property, which are also exclusive to hotel guests.
When possible, we recommend that all would-be aeronauts arrive in the morning to begin the check-in process. Your room will probably not be ready, but luggage can be stored in a secure room adjacent the lobby. Hotel staff will provide you with your park tickets so that you can enjoy Phantasialand while you wait for your room to be prepared. You will also receive your quick passes for F.L.Y., which can then be used at any point during your stay, contingent on ride operation. Charles Lindbergh guests are the ONLY park guests that will be able to acquire quick passes for F.L.Y. - as of now, they cannot be purchased by general admission guests or other hotel guests, and the park seems to have no imminent plans to amend this policy. When your room is ready (est. between 3:00pm and 4:00pm local time), you will receive your key cards and your custom logbook which should help to fill in some information gaps…and also makes for a pretty fantastic souvenir.
There is only one room type at the Hotel Charles Lindbergh, which is called an aeronaut cabin. The space is designed to mimic an early 1900’s cabin on a luxury zephyr (blimp), and - with the exception of television and wifi - it does a pretty convincing job. Each cabin accommodates two guests, so larger families will have to book more than one cabin. The cabins are not spacious, but they provide all the necessities for a comfortable stay. We found the mattresses to be comfortable and the drawers under the bed provided storage for quick access items. There are also plenty of outlets to charge devices, including one tucked under the shelving next to each bed. Each room also has a cubby to store suitcases and small space to hang shirts or folded pants. The bathroom is small, but very well themed and provides modern amenities such as an electric hairdryer and water cups. Let’s be real - the adventure is out there in Rookburgh, so the cabin is really just for sleeping and bathing.
Dinner is served in the Restaurant Uhrwerk, which is located on the ground floor of the Hotel Charles Lindbergh. This restaurant offers a limited-menu, a la carte lunch to ticketed park guests during the day, but the evening meal is exclusively for guests of the Hotel Charles Lindbergh. As previously stated, this three course meal is included in your hotel package. Beverages are NOT included and can quickly add up, but the savvy diner stands to save upwards of €50 per person with the right selections from the dinner menu. Appetizers offered include poké bowls, pasta bites and beef tartare. Featured main courses are a selection of “Rookburgers”, salad bowls and various pastas, with some vegan variants available as well. And it’s important to leave room for dessert, when you can sample apple pudding, ice cream, or nougat tartlet. The Restaurant Uhrwerk Menu has enough variety to sate even the most adventurous traveler; you could try a different course combination every night of your stay and never grow bored. This meal is always cooked fresh and ‘delicious’ would be the understatement of the year, but it’s also quite filling…so be sure that you save some room. Breakfast - also served at Restaurant Uhrwerk - offers a variety of hot and cold items such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, porridge and an assortment of breads and spreads. Coffee, tea, juice and water are included with this meal. At both meals, you will be seated by hotel staff and may end up sharing a table with another party depending on your party size.
If you’d like to try one of the largest, most delightful cocktails in Germany, you’ll also want to check out Bar 1919, a beautifully themed lounge serving up delectable brews and cocktails. This is a great place to catch up with your travel party or shoot a game of billiards. It is also open during park hours and can be a much needed respite as use of the lounge is exclusive to hotel guests. You simply can’t beat the vibes of sipping a smoking concoction while watching a flying coaster soars over your head and under your feet.
Like the other two Phantasialand hotels, guests of the Charles Lindbergh have a private park entrance that enables direct access to a themed area of the park - in this case, dropping you right into the beating heart of Rookburgh. An attendant will check your hotel-specific ticket as you go both in and out of the hotel, so be sure to have that ticket ready if you come back for a reprieve during the day. When you are ready to use your F.L.Y. quick pass, your private entrance is located on the opposite side of the “air rail” tracks from the main ride entrance and will be directly in view once you enter the park from hotel-exclusive entrance. F.L.Y. is a very popular attraction and wait times can get quite long, so the quick pass perk is a major time-saver. However, it’s worth noting that quick passes do not allow you to queue for the front row; you will be assigned to whichever row is available.
Staying at the Hotel Charles Lindbergh is the ultimate Phantasialand experience, if not the ultimate theme park resort experience. We’ve had our share of “theme park view” rooms over the course of our travels, but the level of theming and immersion at this hotel is unlike anything we have ever seen or experienced. From the moment you enter the front door, you are inducted into the prestigious Explorer Society and granted all the privileges that come along with membership. Shortly after we got home from our trip, Phantasialand also announced an additional experience that has only upped the immersion that much more - the Aeronauts Wardrobe. For €49.90 per person, guests of the hotel can now access an assortment of curated costume pieces to rent and wear around Rookburgh and the Hotel Charles Lindbergh. Just think of the possibilities for aesthetic photo shoots and Instagram Reels! We absolutely adored our time at the Hotel Charles Lindbergh and can highly recommend the experience to any adventure and immersion enthusiast.
